the first shiny pokemon i ever caught was the shiny gyarados at the lake of rage

because of the immense difficulty in getting shiny Pokémon, I only have 2 ACTUAL shiny Pokémon.

So the only shiny I've ever legally caught is Red Gyarados, which doesn't really count.

It isn't too hard to get shinies in D/P/Pt due to the Pokeradar method of getting shinies, and the Interracial breeding method of getting shinies. Its still a rare occurrence, but it can be made a lot less rare then it usually is.

I think the odds where over a thousand to one at least.
(but of course I haven't looked it up in a long time....)

It's way less likely than 1000 to 1...

It's a 1/8192 chance that you'll encounter a shiny.

well I knew it was high, I just gave it a number XD
but ya it's in the thousands like you pointed out.
That's why I never bother to hunt shinies down, it's way unlikely that you'd even get one.

Its a bad idea to travel on the routes without a Pokemon weak enough to not kill the shiny in 1 shot, but strong enough to get a shiny at low HP. I learned the hard way. I was on my way to the Elite 4 and ran into a Shiny Gabite in victory road. All my Pokemon were at lvls 75+ and my weakest on that team (who was Staraptor), killed Gabite in 1 shot.

a shiny gabite?, that's too bad you're pokemon were too strong, i guessing that encounter was in platinum

I have had a number of Shiny Pokémon in the past. Sentret is the last of several shiny Pokemon I've had over the years. The very first Shiny Pokemon I ever had was the Red Gyarados on Silver, which most people got. The next one I got was a Shiny Meowth on my way to Olivine City. It was female and when the game got stolen, I lost the Meowth. Never had a chance to evolve it into Persian.

The next Shiny I got after Meowth though was a Shiny female Pinser I got from a Bug Catching Contest. I loved how it looked (Blue body with golden horns) but sadly, when the game got lost, so did it.

When Ruby/Sapphire came out, the next shiny Pokemon I got was a Shiny Spinda. I never trained it much, but it was still awesome to have. After the Spinda, I caught a Shiny Tentacool while going to battle the elite four. It evolved into Tentacruel almost right away so I used that as a meat shield for the first time through before actually training it. However, when I lost Ruby I lost those two as well.

The most valuable Shiny I ever had was a shiny Articuno I nicknamed Shiva from Final Fantasy. But it was deleted when my Roommate at college played it. When I first played Platinum, I got a Shiny Geodude and evolved it into Graveler. But my roommate also deleted that.

I caught a shiny Swablu a few months ago and evolved that into Alteria, and I still have her on my Platinum game. I caught several Shiny Gyarados each time I type train on SS too. And now, I have a Shiny Sentret (will be Furret when I start training it).

So, the Shiny Pokémon I have now are Alteria, Furret, and several Gyarados.

I'm currently searching the GTS for a Foreign Trapinch, Vibrava, or Flygon, If I can find one, I am going to be spending a lot of Time breeding Flygons, as when you breed two pokemon of a different language, the chance of it being shiny is 1/2040 instead of the usual 1/8192. The odds are more then doubled, and having a shiny Flygon would be awesome

I'm trying to finish my Platinum quickly, so I can get the Pokeradar and chain for the first time. (I have the Pokeradar on my Diamond, but I cheated to get it. Even though it technically wouldn't be cheating to get shinies, I still wouldn't like it....)

Shiny Umbreon looks better than the original in my opinion. Digging the blue bands over yellow. But yellow doesn't look bad either.
